These pages were written mainly because I wanted to and
because I could.
Most of these articles I have chosen to approach from a very
formal standpoint (that is, to format it as an article of the
sort you would find in a magazine rather than just speaking
off the cuff.) That meant a certain extra due diligence was
necessary to ensure that the pages are not only interesting
but accurate as well and would appeal to a wide range of
readers.
The information contained herein did not,
however, spring out of nowhere. It took more than a little
effort to format this site, purchase, house, and power the
equipment it resides on, purchase and maintain instruments and
tools used for testing, conduct the necessary research which
also involves obtaining research materials not available
online, compose, shoot, and process the included photographs,
purchase of ammunition, taking chronograph readings, creating
sample targets for the various loads which necessitates range
time and travel thereto, author the specific pages along with
review and editing time....
You get the idea that these pages were not something I could
create in a single afternoon, not to mention the fact that I
have a real job in a completely unrelated industry that also
demands appropriate attention. Indeed, assembling some of
these pages took considerable effort and more than a little
cash. Magazines have sponsors. Some of these sponsors will
help defray costs of publication by supplying weapons,
ammunition, and the like in exchange for advertising and
direct mention in the various articles (if the article
itself is not about the stated product or vendor.) The
tradeoff is that they expect good things to be said about them
and their products which in turn affects the impartiality of
the publication. Even if a magazine doesn't accept payment for
reviews, they still have advertising contracts and will not
allow a scathing article to endanger a $50k annual deal. (They
will instead simply reject the article and possibly even the
author.) I don't have sponsors. That means my
impartiality is not impacted but also means that, since this
is a hobby for me, there is no one to send my expense
reports to.
If you've found any of these articles or comments or any other
portion of this site useful and wish to support my hobby, you
can now express your gratitude in the form of a donation via
PayPal. Any amount helps. Oh, please do not read this as an
open solicitation for donations, I merely provide this as a
mechanism for those who wish to do so.
My wallet and I thank you.
